Why are you lovely creatures so hard to love?
Why won’t you just let someone love you?
I’m writing this as I’m wincing here.
From a love that decided to leave.
Not because I was hurting her or treating her wrong but because she wants something I just cannot give her.
Monogamy.
Exclusivity.
The promise to not love anyone else.
I just can’t do that.
But I sure can give love.
When a girl will just settle in and let me do so.
It is so hard at times to walk through this world and see how many of you girls are pining and wishing and wondering why you’re not finding love.
When a guy like me?
I would love you in a moment.
Give you tenderness and connection and warmth.
No this is not the whining of a Nice Guy.
A guy who thinks he’s entitled to your love.
I know who I am and what I have to offer if you’ll just open your heart to me now.
I know what you’re missing when you don’t.
But you have to hold on to that endlessly failing paradigm that romantic love comes in only one package.
So you don’t let me love you.
You won’t receive my gift.
Instead you walk away and wonder where love is.
It’s right here darling.
Holding out its hand.
But you won’t accept it because of what it looks like.
Why are you so hard to love? All you wonderful girls who wrap yourselves around my heart at every turn.
That is the biggest hurt of my life.
Knowing how I’d love you if you would just let me in.
But you don’t.
What can I SAY?
What can I do?
I’ll just keep loving you here from this distance.
Maybe one day you will open up your eyes and see what has been right in front of you all this time. I don’t know.
Love is a funny thing.
It’s something you can only GIVE.
Not something you can make anyone receive.
But you keep loving anyway.
Because that’s what love does.
It just values its object without thought of taking.
How about you? Do you find the guys or girls in your life are hard to love too?
