I was delighted to read this article.

In it Kate Beckinsale says she doesn’t like crocheting.

Instead what does she like to do?

Hang out with and date YOUNGER guys.

Heaven forbid that a girl in her late 40s would do something so “outrageous.” Of course you probably know that my tongue is burrowing deep into my cheek right now.

What Kate is on to here?

It’s that you’re not DEAD until it’s over.

She’s not talking about doing a bunch of crazy stuff.

She’s just out there having some FUN.

Part of why she’s “out there” of course is she ended up divorcing her latest husband. I know. Shocking once again that monogamy would take it’s toll.

But even here?

Kate is wise.

She’s figured it out.

So I admire her.

She says, “I think more people would do well married if they didn’t have to live in the same house. Being married is kind of easy, but the living-with-the-person thing is a lot.”

Of course what Kate is struggling with now?

It is the whole gender double standard.

She says, “It can feel like a little bit of a political act.”

“To be a woman over 32 who’s having any fun at all.”

“I witness men constantly doing whatever they like, whether that’s in relationships, or deciding to buy a motorbike, or getting a tattoo.”

Guys don’t get asked the kind of questions Kate gets asked:

“Why hasn’t he had more children?”

“Is he ever going to decide to become a parent?”

“Why has he had so many girlfriends?”

So what does Kate recommend you girls do instead? Quit “subjugating” your needs to “whoever else is in the room” and maintain your independence.

Without really knowing she is?

Kate is really recommending Romantic Friendships to you.

Be your own girl and live your own life.

But enjoy romantic love while you’re at it!
